Czech router in the Himalalyas...

I'm happy to announce that all 4 wireless routers which where installed on AirJaldi's main tower in Upper-TCV school, where replaced by a single router from the Czech republic!
Thanks to the generous donation of Mr. Lukas Hudecek from IteQ s.r.o of his newly designed quad-radio router.
The robust cast-Aluminum weather-proof enclosure with a massive heat-sink, hosts a MikroTik Router-Board 523A board.
The 4 high-quality Reverse SMA RF connectors at the bottom are an excellent choice for the most demanding outdoors installations of both 5.8 and 2.4 bands, while maintaining a port-density better then what bulky N-type connectors offer.
We feed the router with 48v (it's more like a 56v with batteries fully charged) over a very long PoE drop, through the IP67-rated Ethernet connector.
A proprietary optional connector is added for special applications, such as daisy-chaining additional routers, connecting a video camera etc.
The router is loaded with an AirJaldi Mesh firmware, based on Kamikaze release of OpenWRT.
More details can be found on Itec's web sites:

Hopefully - we where able to provide Lukas with valuable feedback, which will contribute to an even better version of this router in the future.
Many thanks Lukas !
We look forward for future collaboration...

Installation of Czech router on TCV tower

Dinesh & Rana install the IteQ router on the TCV Tower.

Iteq Outdoor router

Congratulations

Congratulations on continuing to move forward both locally in-and-near Dharamsala, and on your installations in the US. Having connections all over the world helps bring the newest technology, new ideas and new infusions of people to the project. Keep it up!

Nice; where can we find more information

This looks like a very nice unit, and looks like it should survive the weather there. Thanks for sharing. Do you know where those of us who don't read Czech can get more information on this unit (power requirements, radio specs, pricing, how to purchase, etc.)? Also an off-topic question--what is the brand and dBi of that parabolic shown in the picture?

IteQ router..

Hi Anonymous - if you'd leave your email address or register to the site - I'll be happy to put you in touch with Lukas directly... However, I don't feel like posting his email here would be a wise thing to do - spam wise... You can check out Lukas's other site: http://www.iteq.cz/   where you might find additional information.

Green dish..

Ohh - sorry, I forgot to answer your question about the dish:It's an Indian made (no brand) parabolic grid of quite a low quality. It cost about Rs.8000 in Delhi (which is not cheap  ~ $185).It's rated at 27dBi but I doubt it. Also - the front-to-back ratio is very poor. The beast is rather heavy and very hard to work with. Overall, not a huge benefit over a much smaller and much much cheaper 24dBi semi-parabolic grid of 24dBi (Rs.1200 = $27).I would suggest to go with a solid dish where higher gain is needed.

thanks

Thanks, Yahel, for the information on both questions. I've registered now, so you can access my email address.

your antena and sollar panel ware removed from Indrunag Temple
and no possible to connect to the network.
Village boys and girls are of course anxious to connect.
Problems? Because of new router?
Is there something We can do for Tau, Chola and upper Bangotu school
children?

Indrunag and Chola area

Dear Shankar,The removal of router from IndruNag temple had nothing to do with the new router in Upper TCV.As our network is growing rapidly, we made so many new installations in the area, rendering the station at IndruNag useless for us since about a year back. Nevertheless, we kept the station there, although we did not used it as a relay. However, as the IndruNag temple began to renovate and build a new section, the building work had created many problems and the equipment was abused by laborers with frequent damages to cables and solar panels. We had to send a repair crew very often which was costly, especially where we had no use for the site anymore. Moreover, we kept paying the monthly donation to the temple committee for allowing us to use the site, and in fact kept paying for long after we removed the equipment as they where in need of cash for the ongoing renovation work and we felt it was good to make these donations. These remote sites, with no power source, are expensive to maintain and operate and we try to avoid such installations, replacing them with many more, yet less elevated sites. In fact, we plan to soon remove the station from Cholla village as well.Having said that - we would be very happy to provide service to these villages. I would therefor ask you to email me the details of how many computers are within these villages, who are the owners and where are they located.I'm under the impression that we are talking about a single laptop computer and a single user - you.If that is the case - we can provide the laptop with an external antenna which will allow it to connect to McLeod-Ganj.It is not feasible to continue service to two expensive base-stations in order to provide connectivity for a single laptop. If only fixed (not mobile) connectivity is needed for IndruNag temple - we can install a small client station there, at a much lower cost, providing connectivity to the local area.Nevertheless, we would like to ensure all this is done in coordination with the temple committee and local villagers in an official manner. On another subject - can you say a bit about who is planning to build a hotel and restaurant at IndruNag, as suggested by the site: http://www.indrunag.com/inn.html ?That would be a very good location indeed.Seems like you are the site and domain owner...Best...Yahel.
